Karaikal Polytechnic College, an AICTE approved institution is fully funded by the Government of Puducherry and is affiliated to the Directorate of Technical Education (DOTE), Chennai, Tamilnadu. It was instituted in the year 1988 at Thenoor, Thirunallar, Karaikal. Later, it was shifted to its permanent campus at Varichikudi, Karaikal in the year 1998. The objective of the establishment of the institution is to produce qualified proletarians for assisting the technical professionals in the field of Engineering and Technology. This institution is governed by the Pondicherry Institute of Post Matric Education(PIPMATE), Puducherry, under the Chairmanship of the Secretary to Education, Government of Puducherry.

The institute has a long history of producing skilled accolades in the field of Engineering and Technology and plays a pivotal role in upbringing society to the next level through the effective contribution of its technocrats. The institute envisions developing the overall personality of the students. To realize the aforementioned dream, various supporting activities are conducted at the institution apart from the curriculum put forth by the DOTE. The Quality Assurance Cell (QAC), Industry-Institute Partnership Cell (IIPC), Canada-India Institutional Cooperation Project (CIICP), Training and Placement Cell (T&PC), National Service Scheme (NSS), National Cadet Corps(NCC), and the establishment of Indian Society for Technical Education Chapter (ISTE) are some of the worth mention a few. In addition, the institute has constituted several committees and cells like Grievance Redressal Committee, Anti-Ragging Committee, SC/ST committee, Internal Complaint Cell, Media and Public Relationship Cell, and MHRD Innovation Cell, for bringing transparency and fairness in its administration.
